Reign Over Me Evaluation Essay Example for Free

Rule Over Me Evaluation Essay Misery influences all individuals. Rule Over Me is a film that manages a character in a grave condition of sorrow. In Charlie Fineman’s (Adam Sandler) case misery hits hard and prompts a significant social change. Fineman shut out significant pieces of his life including his school flat mate, Alan Johnson (Don Cheadle). In the wake of running into him in the city, it takes some time for this experience to refresh his memory of his closest companion. We learn later that this downturn is expected the passing of his three girls and spouse in a plane accident. The news annihilates Fineman. He can't work in the public arena the equivalent and loses reason throughout everyday life, just as faith in himself. Rather than allowing this misery to distress and attempting to recover, Fineman closes everyone out and attempts to avoid reality. This can be a major issue in today’s society. Numerous individuals are humiliated or too hurt to even consider trying to proceed onward and they let what happened direct their individual future. In this movie, coordinated by Mike Binder and delivered by Jack Binder and Michael Rottenberg, the message of sadness and its belongings is transferred unmistakably. This film identifies with this present reality well indeed; it likewise assists open with increasing the eyes of numerous who don't comprehend what gloom can do. Rule Over Me manages a character who has the greatest piece of his life taken from him in a moment. While others can't tell the amount Fineman is enduring by his activities, the loss of his family pounds him. Rather than grieving he falls into an underground government of refusal where he nearly overlooks their reality. A significant topic all through is Fineman attempting to fix the wrongs he did to his family, such as lashing out at his better half about kitchen redesigning or not taking his shoes off. Despite the fact that they are simply seemingly insignificant details he ensures no one comes in his home with their shoes on and redesigns the kitchen a few times. These little demonstrations show that he despite everything recollects. There is a scene in the film where Fineman opens up to Alan, his previous flat mate. In spite of the fact that he would not open up to the specialist, he reveals to Alan about what occurred. It was in a word yet in this scene you get the chance to per ceive what amount reviewing his past damages. Trying to say his daughters’ names makes him cry. This scene shows how hard it is for Fineman to discuss his life. All through the film, we learn gradually the eventsâ that occurred. Outcasts and even his parents in law imagine that he is affronting his expired friends and family. They don't comprehend why he doesn't convey an image of his family with him or even have one in his home. They take it to the point of needing to have him submitted until he at long last converses with them and clarifies that it is so difficult to live every day and that it is so difficult to see them or anyone since he sees his family all over the place. There are numerous pundits and naysayer to this film just as supporters. A large portion of the audits I read truly focused on the part played by Adam Sandler. Adam Sandler shoulders an extremely sensational character in this film and this side of him is undervalued. He is famously known for his interesting outward appearances and tricks. This persuades he can’t assume a genuine job yet in Reign Over Me he hits a grand slam. Similar audits were not all that basic about Don Cheadle. He had an influence he is accustomed to playing brushing an ordinary demonstration with the incidental interesting statement or joke to keep the w atchers ready. The on-screen characters play out an exceptionally reasonable situation. Their parts are sensible and don’t subvert or detract from the message of the film. From my very own judgment the film Reign Over Me brings the watcher into a world numerous individuals don’t or won’t ever observe. It consolidates amazing acting with a sensible story-line that transfers an important message. They story isn't outlandish and is truly practically identical to the real factors of numerous individuals today. Undoubtedly, the two on-screen characters play a side the watcher isn't acclimated with seeing contrasted with different films Adam Sandler and Don Cheadle are known for. Different motion pictures like, Billy Madison (Adam Sandler) or Brooklyn’s Finest (Don Cheadle), these on-screen characters have totally different parts. This film shows the ability in every one of the individual on-screen characters. The two entertainers play off one another during the film which takes a lot of aptitude and made a healthy and classy creation. Numerous scenes are not verbatim and the aptitude of the on-screen characters to ad lib makes for an engaging film watching experience for the crowd. I for one prescribe this film to anyone from youthful grown-ups to the old and the entirety of the abovementioned. Rule Over Me doesn’t just recount to a story yet will likewise pull the core of the crowd in a genuine and sensational rollercoaster ride. The film may have numerous pundits however I figure the two on-screen characters made a great showing all through the film keeping the crowd engaged for the whole two hours and brief film. The discussion is on! Go watch the film todayâ and mull over the numerous sides and make your own supposition. Works Cited Web Source †O., Scott. Post World War II A Major Transformation Into What Is...

Post World War II, internationalisation underwent a major transformation into what is now globalisation. While the concept of internationalisation keeps the nation what it was at the core and maintains the cultural practices, globalisation integrates nations into one economic area due to free trade and capital mobility. It is incredibly difficult to look at globalisation objectively as a black and white issue because there are both helpful and hurtful things about it. When once it took months of time to communicate with other countries, technology has made it possible to make contact with someone across the globe within minutes. Another outcome of globalisation is that a single language (English) is becoming much more common so more people across different cultures are able to have a conversation. Whether that is a positive or negative effect has yet to be determined. While there are advantages to the integration of nations there are also downsides. With the increase of globalizatio n, there is also harm caused to countries that are attempting to develop economically because they are unable to keep up with major economic powers. The loss of culture is another serious effect as well as the marginalization of those who are not an over-developed and commercialized nation. The Ethical Dilemma of Gambling in Pro Sports - 1660 Words

Gambling in professional sports is an ethical dilemma that needs to be examined from all angles before making a decision on whether to bet or not. Gambling has been a part our society for thousands of years, dating back to the original Olympic Games in Greece. Depending on where you live, there will be different laws regarding the rules of gambling. The story of Pete Rose shows a good example of what can happen to a sports manager that bets on his own team and others in his sport. In this case, there will be a situation where someone is faced with an ethical dilemma and they must go over all options before making a decision. Before betting on a sports team, one must look at all alternatives to betting and the consequences that come with each one. After this, a choice must be made regarding the ethical dilemma. This decision must be looked at from the legal side of things, as well as your own gut feelings towards your choice. You also must ask yourself how you would feel about it if y ou told the world what your decision is. The code of ethics of sports managers can also play a role in the decision making process. An ethical theory called utilitarianism will also be a way of looking at how and why the decision was made. By covering all these topics, it will assist in making the decision for an ethical dilemma. Most of the children lost their homes along with that they lost their friends, family, relatives etc. This civil war also started the child labor and the child soldier which is brutally affecting the future of Syrian children. Due to this civil war, the most polio free country was also affected by polio. The war is continuing for more than six years and it has resulted in a killing of above 480000 people. The Syrian government on their people only have used chemical weapon to establish their power. But this war could be easily stopped if Iran were not a part of this conflict. Iran literally helps Syria especially Syrian government to continue the war with a weapon, intelligence, and finance (Margesson, 2014). They fully supported President Assad of Syria for their civil war and provided all the necessary things that are required for war. The Syrian army was only prepared for the classic war they were not prepared for rebellious wa r and here in this Iran helped them a lot to understand and over the war. Islamic Revolutionary Guard crops had the brutal experience of domestic war in Iran and they used that experience to provide training to Syria and help them to continue their war. The United Nation commission in their inquiry got the evidence that both the parties were equally responsible for this civil war as both of them have committed war crimes like the murder, disappearance, torture and so on. The conflict now has become the national issue of religion for the people belonging to Shiite and their opposite party Sunni (Crosston, 2014). This paper will include the approaches of Iran in the Syria crisis along with the role of Iran in Syria future. This paper critically discusses the condition of Syria and the impact that Syria have on their people. From this paper, the reason behind Iran help to Syrian President Assad will be clear and the benefit that Iran is getting by helping them will also be clear from t his paper. Iran approach in Syrian crisis It is has been above four years since the commencement of the present crisis in Syria. This crisis in Syria has led to gigantic human sufferers as well as the destruction of the infrastructure of Syria which causes the condition of homeless for millions of people. This has been the huge destruction of a country and to control this US along with the other western countries have made strategic decisions and they are; the countries are not at present insisting the president of Syria to surrender their power, and they have involved Iran to participate in the fresh conversation about the condition of Syria (Ostrand, 2015). Iran is considered as one of the powerful actors who got involved in the development of Syria. The meeting was done in Vienna to figure out a solution for the crisis in Syria. At the time of domestic clash in Iran the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps gained much experience from that brutal domestic war and at present, they are using it in Syria. Actually, they are providi ng their experience to Syria so that they are able to fight back. The commander general Qasim Soleimani and Hossein Hamedani uses their domestic war experience on Syria in the view of a geographical condition and cultural condition (Jang, 2014). When the Syrian was fighting with terrorism and the militant groups they have to make coordination among the governmental institution along with the armed forces is very much important. Iran, in this case, has successfully transferred their experience to Syrian and also created a suitable synchronization among the army, volunteers and other groups of Syria (Sharara, 2014). Iran provided an essential advisory to Syria was the Tehrans emphasis which on the differentiation between the armed opposition and the civilians. The major objectives of this strategy are to impose the lowest range of damage as well as victims of civilians at the war zones. This strategy was implemented in the domestic war zone in Kurdish played an important role to end the war. It can be seen that the Syrian army is continuously facing problems with the fight of military groups. The very first problem is that the armed forces of Syria are mainly trained for the classic war and not for the revolutionary warfare (Heydemann, 2013). And the second problem that is faced by the armed force of Syria is that after the army lest the region the country was again attacked by the armed opposition army and t he result is that they reoccupied the country. But with the help of Iran strategy and consultation on war and armed force, Syria is able to take part in the battle field and this also helps them to retake the area from all those militants groups and maintain a responsibility among the Syrian army. Yes, Iran literally supports Bashar Al-Assad for their crisis and also they advanced in the fight against the climate change. They supported Assad because they want to support people of Syria in favor of their war against terrorism and other militant groups (Moraga,2015). Iran is supporting Syria regime due to several reasons like in the Arab world Iran has very few associates and Syria is one of them. It is quite natural that a country will help their associates in every aspect and Iran is just doing the same with Syria. In the religious reason, they are trying to protect Assad because as per religion Assad is a Shia (Sami, 2014). Therefore, it is a common matter to protect a man from same religion and Iran is doing the same. Another reason for the support of Iran is the support of Hezbollah. Being Assad the anti-Israel it provided Iran the main reason for supporting them because as long as Assad will be the president the Israel will be resisted. Syria is the vital position for Iran strategic plan as well as interest in the Middle East. There is much more reason for which Iran is continuously supporting Syria and President Assad for their fight against the terrorist and other militant groups. One of the major reasons for Iran to support Syria is the common religious roots (Selby, 2017). When this entire problem started Iran was in a dilemma whether to support Syria or not. If they support Syria the Muslims of Arab will consider them as the opportunist and hypocritical but if they did not support Syria then there is no chance that the new government would make everything clear. Iran had also faced a brutal domestic war and other reasons are also involved which provoke Iran to support the president of Syria and help them for their war (Tosun, 2014). Iran also considers that the war was needed between Syria and other militants and then only the problem will be resolved. They also do not want to stop this war but for the civilians, they suggested a strategy that will make less damage to the civilians and their properties. For Iran, this is also a huge matter to come up with as they are all of the same religion (Ammar, 2016). It is clear that they are protecting their religion and for that, they are helping each other. Iran is the backbone for Syria and without their help, Syrians were not able to fight and also their regime would have fallen. This is only Iran that helps them to maintain collaboration and also follow a strategy for their fight against the militant and the terrorist groups. Iran somehow wanted to help Syria and fulfill their wants and needs for the religious which is the main reason for Iran supporting Assad and Syria in the case of war. They are providing all the help that is required for fighting and also they are mentally enhancing the armed force of Syria so that they can perform well in the rebellious war (Carpenter, 2013). This is the rebel war in Syria against the rule of other countries along with the4 terrorism and militant group. Present and future of Syria The civil war that is going on Syria is the deadliest conflict in the present world. It has been said that the president of Syria has used chemical weapons on their own people. The United States along with the Russia is not in the state of mind that they should use great power or not. At present the civil war is making the thing worst for Syria, maximum numbers of people were killed and millions of people lost their houses and they were forced to move to other countries (Ahmadi, 2014). The civil war in Syria is threatened by the other country as they are going to enter the global conflicts along with the regional conflicts. To control Syria from being outraged the US along with Russia decided not to restrict president for the use of their power (Yazgan, 2015). At the present time China, Iran, and Russia are very much interested in the fighting and they want to continue this war. Iran is physically helping Syria with weapons, intelligence and finances so that they can continue this ci vil war. But in the present time, USA is not in the state of sending their army to Syria because this will create a full-scale war which will take prolonged years to settle (Ferris, 2016). In future, one thing can be happening due to this war is that Russia, Iran, and Syria will become a friendly country and in every aspect will help each other. Role of Iran in Syria future Iran plays a huge role in the future of Syria because they are the one who physically helping Syria in their civil war. The future is good or bad but Iran plays a vital role. They are providing intelligence along with the weapons and forces to continue the war (Zetter, 2014). This role of Iran cannot be defined in the good or bad way because according to them they are fighting a rebellious war and for that, they would not step back but for the civilians, this is a nightmare which is fired with the help of Iran. If the Syrian government is unable to control the country than Iran and Russia would take over the power. At that time the future of Syria would change because Iran would then not help Syria they would think for them only. The power that Syria has is all due to Iran and if the government of Syria was unable to control then Iran would never provide their power to Syria. This is because Syria is powerful but they do not have weapons as well as a proper strategic plan which is co ntrolled by Iran (Jenkins, 2014). In the coming future, Iran would be the powerful country with the help of Syria and they will provide all kind of help to the country. Iran can be understood that they are creating a new world and new future for Syria by helping them in their civil war. Benefit of Iran having Assad Iran is directly connected with Syria with religion and strategy. The benefits that Iran has from this civil war are that both Iran and the government of Syria is of Shiite Muslim religion and the opposition is the Sunni (Esfandiary, 2015). So this provides a benefit for Iran to help Assad because they are of the same religion and they are enhancing the power of their religion. Iran does not want Syria to get dominated by the Sunnis who the great rivals of Shiite are and also Qatar along with Saudi Arabia is a great supporter of Sunni. And Iran is the rivals of Saudi Arabia (Tocci, 2014). So it is natural that they are helping Syria to get revenge from Sunni and other Sunni related countries. They are also helping Syria because they are able to threaten Israel with their short range missiles (Von Maltzahn, 2015). Eventually, it can be seen that Syria is mainly fighting the enemies of Iran and for that, they are helping this country to maintain their dignity and to take revenge from t he other countries. The benefits are huge that Iran is getting from helping Syria on the basis of religion and also on the basis of strategy so they are providing everything that is needed to continue the war against Sunni. Competition among countries There was always competition between the countries about their policy view and also on the religious matter that divides them into Shiite and Sunni. Syria was one of the allies of Iran but they also have competition in between them. But in the present time, it has been noticed that Iran is helping Syria and one main reason for that is Assad the president of Syria is a Shiite and they are fighting against the Sunni (Haran, 2016). So it is obvious for Iran to help them but their one more competitor Russia is also helping Syria due to economic reason. There are many issue and competition between the countries but at the time of religious war, they are always with the help of each other. Pakistan is also a Muslim country and for that, they are also indulged with the competition among the Sunni and Shiite. This competition is huge at the time being which may lead to civil war like the conflict that was going on in Syria (Erdbrink, 2015). This competition in the religion value most of the time led to a bad result for the country and also for the civilian's because a war is never good for any country and neither for their civilians. The competition between these countries is so high that they face brutal allegation and also war against each other. It can be seen from the view that Syria did use their chemical weapons on the people of Syria only just because they were Sunni (Hokayem, 2014). This is the level of competition that the countries face in their region and they are always pronged to war for their benefits and other reasons as to them war is the only way to get rid of the problems and the troubles that are faced by the country. Conclusion Iran is the country that plays a critical as well as a significant role in the crisis in Syria. The conflict on civil war was evaluated by the president of Syria, Assad. The war is actually between Shiite and Sunni and Iran is desperately helping Syria because their president is of Shiite religion. This civil conflict in Syria is actually a war of religion and the wear for rebellious. Iran, Russia, and China all want to continue this war due to their personal reasons like the Russia have the reason of ideology and economy. And for the Iran, the reason is of strategy and religion and for the China, the reason is that they have their own personal conflicts with the international policies and the civil war in Syria is the scope to represent their view on the world conflicts. The paper concludes that the war has been denied by the UN security general but after that also Iran is providing a weapon, finance, and intelligence to Syria so that they can continue their war. It has been seen th at Syria has used chemical weapons on their own people to maintain their dignity and their level of power in the country. They have also threatened Israel to use short range missile on them if they do not stay out of this conflicts. They have also threatened the US about the conflict to be taken to global level if they tried to interfere in their civil matters. This paper also concludes that Iran with their strategy of civil war is purposely helping Syria not to end their war and be in their position. They are desperately helping Assad with his invention in the civil war in Syria. Iran plays an enormous position in the future of Syria since they are the only country who physically helping Syria in their civil war against the terrorist and the militant groups. The future is good or bad but Iran plays a vital role in building up the future of Syria. The profits that Iran has from this civil war are that both Iran, as well as the government of Syria, is on the religious Shiite Muslim i n addition to the opposition of Sunni. So this provides an advantage for Iran to help Assad as they are of the same religion as well as they are enhancing the power of their religion. This civil war is creating a huge impact on the people of Syria along with the country that the damage is for public and for the country. The war is still on and still, millions of people are homeless, and all this happen for nothing good of the civilian of Syria. References Ahmadi, Hamid, and Fahimeh Ghorbani. Gender Roles Essays (2212 words) - Gender Studies, Social Psychology

Gender Roles Gender Bias in Literature ?Men Fix Things?Girls Have Dolls? -Shirley B. Ernst I have thought about many different ways to organize this paper and have come to the conclusion that the best way to approach the topic is on a book-by-book basis. My perceptions of the gender biases in these books vary greatly and I did not want to begin altering my views on each so that they would fit into certain contrived connections. What interests me most in these stories is how the authors utilize certain character's within their given environment. Their instincts and reactions are a wonderful window into how the authors perceive these ?people? would interact with their surroundings and often are either rewarded or punished by the author through consequences in the plot for their responses. Through this means we can see how the authors expect their characters to behave in relation to their post in the world. We must be very careful as readers to judge these biases based only on evidence within the text and not invent them from our own psyche due to the individual world we know . In Louis Sachar's award winning book Holes, we see gender biases in many characters. The first and most obvious bias in this book can be found in the way Sachar's characters address Mr. Pendanski, one of the staff members at Camp Green Lake. Many of the boys refer to him sarcastically as ?mom?, and it is not because of his loving nature. Mr. Pendanski is neurotic about things the boys consider trivial and he has a tendency to nag them. Because Mr. Pendanski is portrayed as the antithesis of Mr. Sir, who simply drips testosterone, others view him as a female for his weakness. The fact that Sachar allows his characters to equate weakness with femininity, or more accurately motherhood, shows a certain bias towards the supposed strength that innately accompanies masculinity. This attitude is only furthered by the fact that the rest of the book as almost totally devoid of female characters other than the witch-like caricature presented to us in the form of the warden. She comes complete w ith a vicious disposition and poisonous fingernails. The most interesting part of this bias is that the boys chose to name Mr. Pendanski ?mom? in light of their own personal family histories. I think it can safely be assumed that not many of these boys had a functional relationship with their parents or they probably would not be in Camp Green Lake to begin with. These boys chose to place Mr. Pendanski, a whiny and unrespected man in the grand scheme of things at camp, in the role of mother. They did not turn to the only woman present at the camp, nor the man who disciplines them each day, to fill their maternal needs. Instead they turn to the weakest figure in their lives and mock him by referring to him as a woman. This demonstrates to us that Sachar considers femininity a weakness in this world and has no issues showing us. As Ernst wrote, ?How easy is it to relegate girls to second class citizens when they are seen as second-class citizens, or not at all? (Ernst 67). This point is only furthered by the fact that the only woman present is such a fairy tale character. She is portrayed to us as all but a sorceress and it can be assumed she has taken on this persona in order to survive in a predominately male post in a totally male dominated environment. Even in our class it was evident that many readers were taken aback by the fact that Sachar chose to make his warden a female. And so it again can be seen that Sachar has imparted onto us a bias that a real woman could not function in this world so he had to invent a completely fictional and grandiose one. With all the other characters in the book appearing so human, it seems obvious he turned the warden into a beast because he felt he had to. In What Jamie Saw, by Carolyn Coman, gender bias shows itself in a new way. In this book masculinity and evil seem to go hand in hand.

Writing a Paragraph Developed With Reasons

Writing a Paragraph Developed With Reasons College writing assignments often call on students to explain why: Why did a certain event in history take place? Why does an experiment in biology produce a particular result? Why do people behave the way they do? This last question was the starting point for Why Do We Threaten Children With the Bogeyman? - a students paragraph developed with reasons. Notice that the paragraph below begins with a quotation meant to grab the readers attention: You better stop wetting your bed, or else the bogeyman is going to get you. The quotation is followed by a general observation that leads to the topic sentence of the paragraph: There are several reasons why young children are so often threatened with a visit from the mysterious and terrifying bogeyman. The rest of the paragraph supports this topic sentence with three distinct reasons. Example Paragraph Developed with Reasons As you read the students paragraph, see if you can identify the ways in which she guides the reader from one reason to the next. Why Do We Threaten Children With the Bogeyman? You better stop wetting your bed, or else the bogeyman is going to get you. Most of us probably remember a threat like this one being delivered at one time or another by a parent, babysitter, or older brother or sister. There are several reasons why young children are so often threatened with a visit from the mysterious and terrifying bogeyman. One reason is simply habit and tradition. The myth of the bogeyman is handed down from generation to generation, like the tale of the Easter Bunny or the tooth fairy. Another reason is the need to discipline. How much easier it is to frighten a child into good behavior than to explain to her just why she should be good. A more sinister reason is the perverse delight some people get out of scaring others. Older brothers and sisters, in particular, seem to thoroughly enjoy driving youngsters to tears with stories of the bogeyman in the closet or the bogeyman under the bed. In short, the bogeyman is a convenient myth that will probably be used to haunt children (and sometimes actually cause them to wet their beds) for a long time to come. The three phrases in italics are sometimes called reason and addition signals: transitional expressions that guide the reader from one point in a paragraph to the next. Notice how the writer begins with the simplest or least serious reason, moves to another reason, and finally shifts to a more sinister reason. This pattern of moving from least important to most important gives the paragraph a clear sense of purpose and direction as it builds toward a logical conclusion (which links back to the quotation in the opening sentence). Reason and Addition Signals or Transitional Expressions Here are some other reason and addition signals: alsoa more important reasonat timesbesidesin additionfor this reasonfurthermorein the first place, in the second placemore importantly, most importantlymoreovernextto begin with These signals help to ensure cohesion in paragraphs and essays, thus making our writing easier for readers to follow and understand.

Bias and Heuristics Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Bias and Heuristics - Essay Example In the scenario presented, the supervisor clearly demonstrates bias when he uttered his statements regarding the Volvo and its unreliability. To be more specific, the supervisor's heuristic or bias was the availability bias or error. According to the Wikipedia Encyclopedia, the availability bias is described as, "The distortion of one's perceptions of reality due to the tendency to remember one alternative outcome of a situation much more easily than another." (2006) Furthermore, one's judgment about the relative frequency of an event often depends upon the availability or accessibility of objects or events in the processes of perception, memory or construction in the imagination In the case of the supervisor, he only recalled the bad experience of his brother-in-law. He failed to take into account the experiences of the larger group of people who may have had experiences different from that of his brother-in-law. The reaction of the supervisor also demonstrates another bias. In particular, this is the base rate neglect bias. The base rate neglect, otherwise known as the base rate fallacy, explains how humans, in making inferences about probability, often tend to ignore the background frequencies. (Garns, 1997) In the case of the supervisor, this was clearly demonstrated because he failed to take into consideration the various reviews that were presented to him. He instead focused on one occurrence of the failure of a Volvo car. By doing so, the supervisor neglected the numerous data that supports the good performance of Volvo cars. He was influenced by the base rate neglect which led him to react in the way that he did. With further research suggesting that the initial recommendations regarding the superiority and reliability of the Volvo, one will one be led to deciding that the Volvo should be the car to buy. In making decisions, it is imperative that biases or heuristics are avoided as much as possible. Decision-makers must at all times remain as objective and logical as possible. Biases and heuristics affect the way people view situations and choices. In certain cases, heuristics simplify the decision-making process by making the situation appear simpler. However, there are cases when heuristics, when viewed in the wrong way, may lead erroneous judgments or decisions. With additional information supporting the earlier claim that the Volvo is the better choice, the main heuristic that one must employ is the representativeness heuristic. According to Garns, "An event is judged to be probable to the extent that it represents the essential features of the parent population or of its generating process." In other words, what this means is that a certain sample of the population has the essential features in order for it to be judged as representative of the entire population. In this case, the information gathered through further research may be used to judge the entire population of Volvo cars. Using such a sample as basis for judgment, one can conclude that Volvo cars are indeed reliable and mechanically superior over other brands. Knowing that the supervisor is insensitive to the base rate and judges based on available information, one possible course of action that maybe taken in order to convince him to agree to the purchase of Volvo cars is to present him with all substantial information. It is essential that the available information that the supervis

Tragic Hero Of Shakespeares Great Tragedies Essay Example for Free

Tragic Hero Of Shakespeares Great Tragedies Essay A tragic hero was defined by Aristotle as one who makes an error of judgment that eventually leads to their own destruction. Aristotle once had said that â€Å"A man doesn’t become a hero until he can see the root of his own downfall.† In William Shakespeare’s Macbeth, the protagonist Macbeth is a true example of a tragic hero as he had countless noble qualities coupled with several tragic flaws. He holds an importance to his society; in the beginning, a fearless nationalist, fighting for his country and then eventually he became king. Macbeth did have some major character flaws such as his great ambition, him being haunted by superstition and he had made many grave errors in judgment, one of them being the murder of the King of Scotland. For the duration of events in the plot, Macbeth progressively becomes more and more miserable. There were outside forces which contributed to his corruption; the main force would be the three witches. A Shakespearean tragic hero contains all or most of the following qualities: providing a moral example to the audience, suffering public embarrassment, and meeting his doom with courage and dignity which Macbeth did all of. With it taken into consideration, Macbeth is most definitely a tragic hero. With Macbeth becoming more important in the plot is one of the crucial reasons to why he became a tragic hero in the end. Macbeth was a Scottish general, who was a fearless man and his performance in Scotland’s battle was celebrated greatly in the beginning of the play. Macbeth’s performance was described by the Captain as â€Å"Cannons overcharged with double cracks, so the doubly redoubled strokes upon the foe† (1.2.41-42) With Macbeth doing so well and receiving such positive feedback, King Duncan couldn’t help but be so overjoyed with Macbeth. With all of the valiant news, Duncan’s only response was to upgrade Macbeth’s title from Thane of Glamis to Thane of Cawdor. â€Å"No more that Thane of Cawdor shall deceive Our bosom interest. Go, pronounce his present death, and with his former title greet Macbeth† (1.2.73-76); â€Å"What he hath lost, noble Macbeth hath won.† (1.2.78). Many of Macbeth’s major character flaws were displayed along with his weaknesses and serious errors in judgment in the duration of the play. After he received all the recognition from his success in battle along with his title being upgraded, the ambition he had to become king couldn’t help but rise. His ambition to become King was too heavy and they overtook his morals in the end after meeting the witches’ and hearing his prophecies. When his ambition was combined with the witches’ prophecies it was as if he no longer had morals since he was easily persuaded into what he’d like to hear. When Macbeth is thinking of murdering Duncan to become King his ambition takes control for a moment, but then his morality takes back over. â€Å"Why do I yield to that suggestion Whose horrid image doth unfix my hair and make my seated heart knock at my ribs against the use of nature?† (1.3.147-150). When Macbeth recognizes that he is opening up to his tempt ation, he begins to question himself as to why. But, he begins to persuade himself into believing that the temptation of committing murder can’t be as daunting as he thinks it is, â€Å"Present fears are less than horrible imaginings† (1.3.150-151). In layman’s term, his only fear is fear itself. Macbeth is portrayed as this brave man, whose wife manipulates him by insulting and accusing him of being cowardice, which he believes he has to prove to be false. He won’t allow a single thing get in the way of his future as king. As soon as Macbeth made his final decision, after changing his mind five times, to kill Duncan; eventually it escalated into a sea of many problems both big and small; this is what brought Macbeth to his tragic end. The roles that played the biggest part in Macbeth’s deteriorating character would have to be the three witches. â€Å"FIRST WITCH: All hail Macbeth! Hail to thee, Thane of Glamis! SECOND WITCH: All hail Macbeth! Hail to thee, Thane of Cawdor! THIRD WITCH: All hail Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter!\ (1.3.51-53) The witches had no effect on anyone except Macbeth. Macbeth was completely captivated by the witches. If Macbeth had never met the witches or was told his prophecies he would have gone on through a life of no excitement. Due to being told the prophecies his curiosity of how he would be able to become King of Scotland began to grow immensely and the importance he holds for Scotland increases. Macbeth fast-tracked from Thane of Glamis to Thane of Cawdor and eventually reaching what he wanted the most, the title of the almighty King of Scotland. In Act 4, scene 1, the three witches appear to Macbeth again and they conjure three apparitions for him. The first being (appears in 4.1.77) an armed head and told Macbeth to â€Å"Beware Macduff!† (4.1.81). Macbeth’s reaction to the witches after seeing the apparition was simply thank you. However, I already knew to do that. The second apparition (appears in 4.1.88) a bloody child that said to Macbeth that no man born of a woman could ever harm him. After seeing the second apparition Macbeth thought to himself why must I be aware of Macduff? Everyone is born of a woman. The third and final apparition that appeared to Macbeth (appears in 4.1.98) is a crowned child with a tree in his hand which told Macbeth that he must relax and forget about his troubles because â€Å"Macbeth shall never be vanquished be until Great Birnam Wood to high Dunsinane Hill shall come against him.† (4.1.105-107). But Macbeth vetoed it off as a possibility because it seemed completely ri diculous and impossible for a forest to be able to move. However, unbeknownst to Macbeth was that Macduff actually had not been born of a woman. The doctors had to slice her open (cesarean birth) to remove the baby. Macbeth had been tricked by the three witches, due to Macbeth being so confident nothing would ever happen to him because of his prophecies he did not take the necessary precautions to protect his well-being and his title as King. Macbeth was a victim of superstition due to his avid imagination. His superstition is what made it so easy for him to not question the promises that the apparitions made. His superstition is what made him strongly cling to his belief in the promises made even when circumstances became strenuous. His imagination is so strong that when it was left to run uncontrolled his â€Å"function/ Is smother’d in surmise.† As seen in the â€Å"dagger† scene and in the panic Macbeth had suffered after Duncan had been murdered. It was also seen in the scene which Macbeth saw Banquo’s ghost at the banquet. Undoubtedly, Macbeth incarnates the attributes of Aristotle\s tragic hero in many ways. He had become very important to his society and dreamed of being the most powerful ruler. His ruin was led by his overcoming ambition, superstition, and moral cowardice. It led to an ocean of problems from which there was no possible solution to and from that came his inevitable doom. Macbeth started as a nobleman who was hailed as the savior of this country, a â€Å"valiant cousin,† a â€Å"worthy gentlemen,† but changed to a man of unending cruelty. There should be no skepticism about this, Macbeth is indeed a tragic hero.

Pride and Prejudice :: English Literature

Pride and Prejudice One of the first Novels written in English, Jane's Austen's Pride and Prejudice which has been around for about 200 years. Published in 1813 during a time when England were at war with France. Pride and Prejudice offers a story in which the upper-middle class society are the setting for the relationship of Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy. In a time when Women's main aim is to find a husband against financial snobbery and class prejudice, Austen's Novel celebrates the love over class prejudice and financial snobbery. This novel was set in 1797-1815 in Longbourn, rural England. The novel is told from Elizabeth Bennet's point of view. At the time it was written, women had to get married before twenty six otherwise they would have no where to live or have to live with a relative, and not be important in the house, or asked any questions. So women had to go around trying to catch young men's attention before they got too old, this is shown in Charlotte Lucas who marries Mr. Collins who is a fool, she married for a home later on in life which overrules all over considerations. This shows how much pressure was on women to marry so they could be secure later on in life. A young gentleman called Charles Bingley has rented the manor of Netherfield Park. This gets the Bennet's girls excited who have five unmarried daughters - Jane, Elizabeth, Mary, Kitty and Lydia. Mrs. Bennet is desperate to get them all married so she can live somewhere later on in life when Mr. Bennet dies. After Mr. Bennet goes to see Mr. Bingley, the Bennet's attend a ball at which Mr. Bingley is there. He is dancing with Jane and spends much of the evening dancing with her. His close friend, Mr. Darcy is less pleased with evening and proudly refuses to dance with Elizabeth. "Which do you mean?" and turning round, he looked for a moment at Elizabeth, till catching her eye, he withdrew his own and coldly said, "She is tolerable; but not handsome enough to tempt me; and I am in no humour at present to give consequence to young ladies who are slighted by other men. You had better return to your partner and enjoy her smiles, for you are wasting your time with me." These words tell us that he is proud and doesn't think that the people at the ball are worthy enough to dance with him. The rudeness with which Darcy treats Elizabeth creates a bad impression of him in her mind. An impression which will remain for half of the novel, until the truth of Darcy and

Benefits of a cashless society Essay

It cannot be denied that there is a wide variety of benefits to be gained by a society from a cashless system. In a society where time is as important as money, going cashless can be a big help since the main benefit that a society can get from a cashless system is convenience. A cashless system can be convenient when doing transactions in banks, restaurants, hospitals, airlines, shopping malls, supermarkets, and even in vending machines. Who would have thought that a small piece of plastic card can do wonders for men? Instead of having a hard time finding the exact amount of coins or cash in one’s pocket to pay for a cup of coffee or a can of soda in a vending machine, a person can just insert this piece of plastic card through the slot. Instantly, the exact amount of his purchase is deducted accurately from the amount on the card. Can one imagine how dirty money is? The money that keeps on passing from hand to hand is dirty. Numerous hands will handle this money until it becomes worn out and be recalled and replaced by the government. The handling of money from one individual to another provides an easy way for bacteria to spread quickly. Cashless transactions in restaurants will provide for proper hygiene since the staff will no longer have to handle cash and at the same time handle the food being served. Instead of falling in line and paying for food that has gone cold due to having waited so long to be served, an employee can now enjoy his break from office, and will therefore be encouraged to go back and patronize the restaurant. Likewise, a person will no longer suffer the inconvenience of falling in line in supermarkets, shopping malls and hospitals to pay their bills at the cashier. Since there will no longer be cash to steal, bank and store robberies will cease to occur. There will also be a decrease in attacks on cashiers, storekeepers, taxi drivers, and shoppers. There will be a decrease in crime rates, and so society will no longer have to pay huge amount of tax dollars to go after the criminals. There is no more reason for society to worry about these crimes. The change from cash to electronic money payment will also help the government in their collection of unpaid taxes. The taxes can be automatically deducted from a person’s account. The government will no longer have to spend much money in tracking down tax evaders. Income tax rates can be lowered as a result and the national debt will be greatly reduced. Drug trafficking will also cease to occur since anomalous transactions will be detected electronically. It will also be difficult for some people to launder money since a cashless system will be able to tell how much money was debited or credited in a particular bank account. Not having to print money will prove to be advantageous to the government since it will mean security and cost savings. Counterfeiting of paper currency will now be a thing of the past. In a cashless society, printing of paper money will no longer be necessary. When previously a person will have to buy stamps and envelopes to mail checks as payments, a person can now easily complete cashless transactions. Even on days when the banks are closed, a person can make transactions provided he has internet connection. A person can also make purchases without the use of cash. He can buy products through the internet when he is at home or with the use of credit cards when he in a shopping mall. In a cashless society, instead of paying with cash, employers can have the amount credited to their employees account. This is being done with the use of the Automated Teller Machine (ATM). The employer is then spared from the expense, added time, and inconvenience of going to the bank to withdraw the salaries. It has been said that cashless transactions have been around since the 1960’s. But it has been more prevalent in today’s society. Today, people benefit from cashless transactions through the use of ATMs, debit and credit cards, prepayment cards, the smart cards, or the mobile cash. A handful of people who are against a cashless society have brought up a number of disadvantages such as security and privacy being lost. With proper analysis and study, these drawbacks can be solved. Despite their concerns, it seems obvious that the advantages to be gained from it far outweigh the disadvantages. For in a society that prefers convenience and cost savings, having a cashless society will prove to be more beneficial. REFERENCE Our cashless Future†¦ (27 June 2007). TadpoleNet.
